End of the Year Dates & Info
Happy First Week of June to all of you! I am sending out a few important dates for you. Please let me know if you have any questions. THIS Friday, June 5th: The VERY LAST opportunity to turn any work and technology in during our kila School drive through from 4 - 7 p.m. Please help us by bringing LIBRARY BOOKS, CLASSROOM BOOKS, ASSIGNMENTS, and CHROMEBOOKS with CORDS. Let me know if this time does not work for you and I will make arrangements to help you turn things in at a time that works for you. Keep in mind that you can also turn things into the office this week from 9 - 2. Miss Erica will be there. IF you have already turned your items in, please disregard the above message. NEXT WEDNESDAY, June 10th: The official last day of school for the 2019-2020 school year :) The staff at Kila School would love to send our students into summer break with ICE CREAM, of course! Please make plans to drive through one last time between 11:30 - 2:30. Come by and grab a sack lunch and a kick off the summer with ICE CREAM. Report Cards will be mailed home this year and will include your child’s school supply list for next school year (5th Grade), as well as a letter inviting you to our 2nd Annual School Supply Drop Off, which will take place right before school starts next year. Participating in this drop off event makes things SOOOO MUCH SMOOTHER for teachers and students during thefirst day and the first week of school!! I hope you will ALL be able to join us for this fun day (ice cream for ALL will be included)! ~~~
A survey for our families is up and running and can be found at the link below or on our school website. We eagerly await your feedback on your experiences in distance learning this year. Please let us know your thoughts on your experiences and how we might improve different aspects of distance learning should the need to do this again ever arise. You, our Kila families and students matter so much to us! We love you and feel privileged to journey through life with you and your children. END OF YEAR SURVEY ~ Linked Here
SUMMER PLANS & BEYOND
While we will not be assigning any further required assignments, I did feel it would be beneficial to many families and students to create a topic titled "Summer Practice & FUN" on Google Classroom. Students will always have access to our 4th grade Google Classroom, even in years to come. The same goes for many digital accounts and resources used in 4th grade. Students can continue logging in to their accounts to continue learning or refresh their memories even after fourth grade has ended. Please know that I am also always available for my students, past and present, for whatever they may need - once my student, always my student :) They can always message me on Google Classroom, DoJo, email me, or stop by my classroom.

Assignment GOALS for the week of April 6th
Posted: Monday, April 6th, 2020 Thank you to so many of you who have been emailing completed assignments, everything is looking good! ***A few things to remember as we enter a new week: 1. We begin our first fully digital week tomorrow. All assignments, with directions (students, please read directions) will be posted on Google Classroom. 2. There will be items that will have a goal of being completed by week’s end, and there will be some optional items as well. 3. IF you are not fully finished with the original paper packs, please work on the digital assignments for this week first, and work on the paper packs little by little, after you finish the new digital assignments (the work load is quite a bit lighter this week, so I’m sure many will be able to finish up previous assignments). 4. If you get finished with everything and would like to keep moving forward and learning, you are always free to jump on Khan or any other site we use in class. Go to my links page on my website to access anything you’d like to work on.
Due Dates & Assignment Turn In
Posted: March 26th, 2020 Hello 4th Grade Students and Families, In light of our first school closure extension being issued, I wanted to begin having students send in their assignments for grading and feedback. Photos of the paper assignments can be submitted in a variety of ways:
Take a picture or scan each assignment and put them into a Google Drive Folder and share that folder with [email protected]
Please make sure that I can see the student’s name, and the page number. If the assignment is on lined, graph or copy paper, please make sure that it is titled so that I know what it is and who it’s from. Most students (96%) had their distance learning materials and instructions from me on the evening of Wednesday, March 18th. That would leave 2 days remaining in that week plus 5 additional days for the week of March 30th - April 3rd. This is a total of 7 school / work days that we will have had by April 3rd. In student packs, I tried to provide approximately 10 days worth of assignments (give or take). I am listing out the assignments I would like submitted to me by Friday afternoon, April 3rd, 2020. These assignments match the instructions sent home for each subject. If students have everything in the pack completed by the 3rd - GREAT!! If not, I will allow a few more days for completion before they are expected to begin new assignments and learning tasks which will all be online.
By the afternoon of Friday, April 3rd ( I will gladly accept it anytime this week if you are ready to submit it):
Math
Topic 8 Reteach p. 455-456
Topic 9 Review What You Know p. 462
Topic 9 Lesson 1 (9.1) p. 467
9.2 p. 473
9.3 p. 479
9.4 p. 485
9.5 p. 491
IF students did additional pages, beyond the basic assignment, please send that in as well!! AND GREAT JOB in the extra effort :)
Language Arts
7 reading reflection logs
The first 5 “Writing Tip Activities”
The first 3 Spectrum Reading Exercises
Science
The first 2 Lesson Checks
Tectonic Hazards p.214
Weather Hazards p.223
History - These Lesson Checks could have been completed online. Google Classroom: Classwork: Chapter 2 Americans and Their History. There are 15 activities there, however, most are reading through the chapter, with 5 being the actual lesson checks.
The first 3 Lesson Checks
America and Europe p.53
A New Nation p.61
Growth and Civil War p.69
Map & Graph SKills p.62-63
If you have a different combination of assignments complete - no problem!! I am hoping each family is making a schedule that works for them. Please just let me know what your plan is. My job remains to ensure that each of my students is supported and progressing. THANK YOU so very much for supporting your child’s learning and working with them and with me to ensure their distance learning is a success. Thank you so much to those of you who have stayed in close contact with me over the last couple of weeks. Thank you to those who have been asking questions or asking for help. If you have questions about anything at all, I am here!
Instructional Time Breakdown & Suggestions
In order to help parents set up a productive schedule while doing at home learning, I am providing the approximate amounts of time we spend on each subject per day in class. Parents are in no way required to follow this exactly, please make a schedule that works for your family. I would absolutely encourage you to spend time planning and cooking meals together, sewing, gardening (when possible), even changing the oil or a tire together. This unexpected time together will allow us to spend some creative, back to basics time together which is so beneficial to kids and adults alike. Don't forget to GET OUTSIDE! We could all use more outside, active playtime.
Math: 1.5 hours per day
Language (includes reading, writing, grammar, etc.): 1 hour per day
Language crosses all other curricular areas as there are large amounts of reading and writing in all other subjects. I take writing and comprehension into consideration in all other subject areas. Thoughts and ideas should always be clearly communicated.
Science: 1 hour per day
History / Social Studies: 1 hour per day
In addition to these 4 core academic areas, students receive specials classes. The following approximate time amounts are per week for specials:
Physical Education: 2 hours per week
Music / Art: 3 hours per week
Computer / Technology: 2 hours per week
Library: 1 hour per week
If you would like more ideas or specifics in topics to cover, strategies to use, or schedules to set up, please don't hesitate to DoJo or email me! **Please be aware that students already have specific assignments they have been working through on Khan Academy and Pearson Realize. New digital assignments will appear on Google Classroom, as well as on the actual site it was created on, if our distance learning is extended. All students know how to access these. If you are a family that does not have internet access, please let me know and we will come up with a specialized plan in order to avoid any student falling behind.
